Be Transported to the 1960’s at The American Hotel

Be Transported to the 1960’s at The American Hotel

Last week, I had the pleasure of attending the grand relaunch of The American Hotel in downtown Atlanta. As the first modern hotel in downtown Atlanta, it has been restored to it’s original glory, and they had one fun party to kick off it’s return.

The American Hotel was originally opened in 1962 and played a huge part in the Civil Rights Movement. As one of the first hotels that welcomed all races, anyone and everyone has stayed at this hotel from Elvis to Martin Luther King, Jr. to Hank Aaron to Jimmy Carter. So for the relaunch, we were transported back to the 1960’s. The whole party had a very Pan Am feel. All of the hostesses were dressed as flight attendants, and we were encouraged to get our “Passports” stamped at every prime location at the hotel.

For the renovation, mid-century modern furnishings adorn every single room. Classic car headboards, brightly colored vintage mini-fridges, a James Bond suite, and an Airstream trailer poolside bar are a few of my favorite highlights. But the piéce de ré sistance are the penthouse suites that you just have to see to believe.

The relaunch party thought of everything. From bringing in a jazz band with Dean Martin, Sammy Davis Jr., and Frank Sinatra impersonators, displaying a classic car in the entrance, and providing refreshments that were trendy in the 1960’s, no stone was left un-turned.

Speaking of refreshments, The American Hotel is also home to The Cloakroom Kitchen and Bar which pays tribute to The Cold War. You can sip your cocktail next to JFK, which I totally did!

In addition, The American is perfect for your meeting, conference, or wedding. There are plenty of meeting spaces, boardrooms and the most beautiful grand ballroom I’ve ever seen.

Honestly, The American Hotel is truly a new Atlanta treasure and if you are in the area, need to plan a conference, or just want a transformational “staycation,” you must book a room immediately.

Okay what?! I’m so close to Atlanta and had no idea about this! That is so cool that it was the first hotel to welcome all races, and that all of those influential people stayed there. I’ll definitely have to go check it out, as I do visit Atlanta quite often! Bummer that I missed the relaunch though. Sounds like something I would enjoy. It seems like you had a great time 🙂
