Well hello hello! Happy Wednesday!
This post has been a few weeks in the making because I couldn’t get it together to take the pictures, but finally I am finished! I received the question a few weeks ago about how to apply stick eye shadow, and thought that would be a great topic for a blog post. A few weeks later and it’s finally live!
I think there are actually several great ways to apply stick eye shadow, but I am kind of a one-trick pony so I went with my old reliable method. I prefer the cream stick shadow over the hard pencil because I think it’s easier to work with. So for this little tutorial I’m going to focus on cream stick shadows.
I love golds and metallics so for this look, I used four NYX Jumbo eye pencils in pretty golds and metallics. The colors I used were: 630: Cashmere, 611: Yogurt, 617: Iced Mocha, and 608: Cottage Cheese. I think this would be so pretty for a holiday party or a New Years Eve bash, plus it’s actually really easy to do. I’m not in any way shape or form a make-up expert, but I like to play with different products and like what I like, ya know?
Ok before we even think about adding color, I use a shadow primer. My favorite is the Smashbox Cosmetics 24 Hour Photo Finish Shadow Primer. I’ve noticed after awhile, the cream shadow seeps into my creases and that’s just not a cute look. I love the shadow primer to avoid smudging and creasing. So I literally take my finger and just apply this on my lid. You can use a mini blender too, but I think a finger works fine for this.
I give that a second to dry and then start applying my colors. I started with “Iced Mocha” on the outer v of my lid. I legitimately just take the pencil and draw it on. I then follow behind immediately with a small blending brush. I use the Mac 217. I then used “Yogurt” on the middle section of my lid and heavily blended. I also made sure to blend it with the Iced Mocha color next to it so it’s a seamless transition. Finally, I used “Cashmere” on the inner corner and blended all over again.
Next, I used “Cottage Cheese” on my tear ducts and crease. Again, blend really well all over. In case you haven’t picked up yet, blending is the key ingredient to get a smooth shadow look.
Finally I add my Too Faced: Better Than Sex mascara and set with my Urban Decay: All Nighter setting spray. That’s it! I have my glitzy glam holiday look using stick shadow.
Do you have additional questions? Have you ever used stick eye shadow?
